Here are some rules and safety precautions it's important to review before you hop on your e-bike or e-scooter. Scooter riders should be at least 16 years old, and proper safety gear like helmets is recommended. Scooters can be ridden anywhere bicycles are allowed, which includes streets and paved trails. Yield to pedestrians, and don't travel on sidewalks downtown to keep other people safe. Obey the same traffic laws that cars do. Scooters should travel on the same side of the road as traffic. They shouldn't travel against the flow of traffic. Stay aware. Don't use your cell phone or headphones while riding e-bikes or e-scooters. Use at least one hand on the handlebars at all times to keep you and the people around you safe. If you're riding on the University of Arkansas campus, there are some slow zones to protect pedestrians. You can see a map of these slow zones here. Park responsibly, placing scooters upright. Make sure they don't block important transit stops, ADA accessible locations, driveways, loading zones, or sidewalks, so that it's easy for other people in our community to get around. These common-sense rules are highlights from the e-bike and e-scooter companies themselves. If you're interested in the official rules about riding your e-bike or e-scooter, check the University of Arkansas website to learn about expectations for riding your scooter on campus.
