Event date: June 19, 2022

A new NWA Playwrights Festival is coming to Fayetteville in June, thanks to a joint effort by Smokehouse Players and Arkansas Playwrights Workshop.

The festival will be a spotlight series of 14 staged readings featuring the works of some of Northwest Arkansas’ finest up-and-coming playwrights. Each day of the weeklong event, which takes place from June 14-19, 2022, offers a new script by a new playwright. The readings will be performed by a 21-person company made up of local actors and directors, with free pre-show music provided by local musicians prior to each show.

Tickets for each night are completely free, but donations will be gratefully accepted to support Magdalene Serenity House, "a nonprofit that helps rebuild the lives of women who have experienced trauma, sexual exploitation, addiction, and incarceration through safe housing, long-term support and community partnerships."

The venue is small and no tickets or reserved seating will be available in advance of the festival. Each night will be first come, first served, with doors opening one hour before curtain for pre-show musical entertainment. Beer, wine, and chips will be available for purchase before each reading.
