Event date: June 19, 2022
The team behind the much-loved Fayetteville Roots Festival have a new event planned for this summer, coming to downtown Fayetteville June 17-19, 2022.
Fayetteville Roots on the Avenue will take place on East Avenue, just outside of the Roots HQ. The three day music festival on the Fayetteville square will feature two musical acts each evening and is intended to be an intimate, urban, outdoor street concert experience. As a smaller iteration of Fayetteville Roots Fest itself, there will unsurprisingly be foods curated by local chefs and craft bar selections available too! Like previous Roots HQ on the Avenue outdoor concerts, the festival will use the same outdoor setup: erecting a temporary street stage and setting up smattering of tables in the road for audiences.
Iris Dement, who has previously performed at Fayetteville Roots Festival, will headline the first night of the festival on Friday, June 17. A two-time Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter, Dement mixes elements of folk, country and gospel into her songs. Canadian-American performer Ana Egge will also be on stage Friday, singing her unique brand of punchy, lyrical originals.
The Saturday, June 18 show will feature Black Opry Revue artists Lauren Napier and Joy Clark, performing country, blues, folk, and Americana music. They will be joined by Leyla McCalla, American classical and folk cellist formerly of the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
Bonny Light Horseman will make a detour from their tour with Bon Iver for a stop in Fayetteville to headline the final night of Fayetteville Roots on the Avenue. The supergroup performing Sunday, June 19 is composed of Anaïs Mitchell (Broadway’s “Hadestown”), Eric D. Johnson (Fruit Bats/The Shins), and Josh Kaufman (Josh Ritter/Taylor Swift/Muzz). The act will feature openers Jett Holden and Joy Clark, also of the Black Opry Revue.
Tickets are available now and range from $45-$135.
