There’s always an unquestionable electricity in the air when a big live stage production is about to open—but when the show is part of the public unveiling of a brand new, stunning state-of-the-art theatre, the sense of excitement and anticipation is even more special.
Regular patrons and curious first-timers are enthusiastically embracing the very first TheatreSquared stage production in the organization’s impressive new downtown Fayetteville home, Shakespeare in Love. According to T2’s synopsis, the play “is the greatest love story (almost) never told. This wildly funny and irresistibly romantic new adaptation of the Academy Award-winning film is fresh from its critically-acclaimed debut in London’s West End. Young Will Shakespeare has writer’s block—until he meets Viola. Against a bustling backdrop of mistaken identity, ruthless scheming and backstage theatrics, their forbidden romance inspires a masterpiece.”
The cast of Shakespeare in Love is the largest of any TheatreSquared performance to date, and features an impressive collection of 18 actors, as well as a production team of 17 people. The play is co-directed by Amy Herzberg of T2 and Aimee Hayes, producing artistic director at the highly-respected Southern Rep Theatre in New Orleans. Premiering on August 14, the show will be up for a four-week run through September 8, 2019.
For those who can’t wait for the opening night curtain to rise before getting a first glance at the new facility, the public is invited to visit The Commons starting August 8. This first-floor space includes a café and coffeeshop, along with a bar and area to relax and people watch. The Commons will be open 8 a.m. until close Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to close on Sunday. Performance nights will prompt later hours to offer patrons the chance to visit after each show.
In support of efforts to make professional live theatre accessible and affordable for the community, TheatreSquared offers special group discounts, a 30 Under 30 program which reserves thirty $10 tickets at every performance for anyone under 30 years of age, and $5 Lights Up! For Access tickets for families who can show proof of qualification for federal SNAP assistance. Details on all ticket options are available at the T2 website or by calling the box office at 479-777-7477.
