10 Miles - Mild
Beginning from Veterans Memorial Park, our Uptown Funk route heads south along N. Vantage Drive for a brisk road descent - but with a designated bike lane. Well-established crosswalks at Joyce Blvd. lead to the Kitty Creek Trail and Fayetteville’s extensive paved trail network. Heading west, the route follows Fayetteville’s Mud Creek to the Greenway. A unique trailside find, the Sound Swings at Uptown Fayetteville are a trio of adult-sized swings that play a musical composition when in motion. As soon as the swinging stops the composition pauses, only resuming when the swinging begins again. Fun fact, if all three swings were continuously in use, it would take a staggering 55 days to play the entire composition.
A picturesque section of the Greenway curves along Clear Creek towards Lake Fayetteville and a short, 0.5-mile climb up towards the Lake Fayetteville Trail. One of our most popular trails, the Lake Fayetteville Trail is a 5.5-mile scenic paved trail loop offering beautiful views of the lake, playgrounds, picnic areas, and restrooms. Originally constructed in 1948 as a source of drinking water for the Fayetteville community, the bridge spanning the Lake Fayetteville spillway is a favorite spot for photos. The lake’s natural setting and a variety of flora and fauna fill the views as the Lake Fayetteville Trail leads riders clockwise back to Veterans Memorial Park to complete our Uptown Funk route.
Around the route’s halfway point is an option to head to the Lake Fayetteville Food Trucks - a large food truck court perfect for an outdoor lunch or quick bite to tide you over. While each food truck sets its own hours, you’ll find a flavorful variety of burgers, po’ boys, street tacos, tamales, traditional Thai, Filipino cuisine, and Asian-inspired dishes at the dozen food trucks situated near Lake Fayetteville.
In addition to the Lake Fayetteville Food Truck court, the area around Lake Fayetteville offers several after the ride options to refuel including Mellow Mushroom – a popular pizzeria serving up stone-baked pizzas and a large variety of draft beers and tasty, handcrafted cocktails. A bicycle-friendly patio sets in the shade of a giant oak tree that towers over the building.
