Set for Sunday, October 13, 2019, the day’s events are organized by The Spark Foundation in partnership with the Fayetteville Firefighter’s Association, and participants of all ages, paces and abilities can choose to run the half marathon, 5k or a one-mile course. While the majority of runners will be hitting the pavement in typical lightweight athletic attire, a dedicated few hardcore active-duty firefighters will take the Firefighter Challenge and run the race in full bunker gear (running shoes are allowed in lieu of boots.) The race appropriately coincides with National Fire Prevention Week and includes a 9/11 Memorial to commemorate the sacrifices made then and now by firefighters, law enforcement and first responders.
Registrants can pick up race packets in advance at The Spark Foundation office at Mount Sequoyah Center—or on race day in the heart of downtown Fayetteville, Arkansas at the corner of Dickson Street and West Avenue. Half marathon runners may board shuttles from downtown to the race starting line at Lokomotion Family Fun Park. 5k and one-mile runners will start their races from downtown, which will also serve as the finish line and post-race festivities for all participants. The after party includes a Columbus House Brewery Beer Garden, live music from Sons of the Ark and a Fire Safety Fair by Fayetteville Fire Department.
