Just like the changing of the clocks for the beginning of Daylight Savings and the celebrated immergence of dogwood and redbud trees throughout the Ozarks, there are a few happy reminders that spring has fully taken hold in Northwest Arkansas. One of those seasonal rites is the annual Spring Square 2 Square Bike Ride, a 30-mile cycling celebration on the Razorback Greenway, which starts in Fayetteville and finishes in Bentonville.

More than 2,000 cyclists representing all ages and skill levels will head to the Greenway on Saturday, May 18th from a starting point just west of the Historic Fayetteville Square along Church Avenue. Riders take off between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and are invited to stop at any of three rest stops along the course to take advantage of fun entertainment, basic refreshments and bike maintenance services. For those who don’t wish to travel the whole distance, cyclists may join the trail ride at any point along the way. The ride finishes at Lawrence Plaza in Bentonville.

Registered riders receive cool event swag, including a t-shirt, water bottle, required wristband and a finisher medal. Those originating on the Bentonville end of the trail who wish to take advantage of an hourly shuttle ride to the Fayetteville starting point may reserve a spot in advance for just $5.00 per person. The same option is available for riders who finish the ride in Bentonville and do not wish to ride the 30 miles back to Fayetteville.

To register for Spring Square 2 Square, reserve a shuttle and learn more about where to pick up packets before ride day, visit fayetteville-ar.gov. This event, and a reverse version which takes place in the fall on September 7, is organized through a collaborative partnership of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation, Bentonville Parks and Recreation and Bike Bentonville.
