It’s not often an artist starts a piece of work with its name, then draws inspiration from those words. A much more typical path is to create and then (sometimes grudgingly) title the art to offer guidance or explanation to the viewer. Fenix Gallery is showcasing a new exhibition that celebrates the former, as they open Good Humor, Recent Works by Jan Gosnell, running through September 28, 2019. An opening reception for the public is scheduled to coincide with Fayetteville First Thursday on September 5.

There’s nothing in the world that brings out the happy kid in a person quite like a county fair. In Fayetteville, Arkansas, home of the Washington County Fair, this annual tradition has been operating continuously since 1857 (except for a few years during the Civil War!) Stacking up as the largest county fair in the state, five fun-filled days from August 20 – 24, 2019 will usher in a ton of family entertainment to town.
This summer brings a truly unique opportunity for three very different artists with strong Fayetteville, Arkansas ties to exhibit their work in conjunction with a highly anticipated and well-known immersive, psychedelic-surrealist art installation by Wayne Coyne, lead singer of rock band The Flaming Lips. Contributing to a group exhibition alongside the installation of King’s Mouth are local artists Kat Wilson, Dillon Dooms and Sasha Rayevskiy.
If you’ve got a day or just a couple of hours to do some leisurely wandering on foot, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the fantastic array of downtown Fayetteville shopping options located over a several block span. Block Avenue and Dickson Street offer a mecca of independent stores with friendly service and unique stock you won’t find just anywhere. And, when your retail therapy results in an inevitable appetite and thirst, the hardest thing to do will be to choose from all of the options for where to stop in for a few bites and a craft cocktail or two!
