Art Ventures, a dynamic visual arts gallery committed to collaboration with the community and supporting artists working to the highest standards, is showcasing beautiful exhibitions in June and July. In keeping with the organization’s mission to provide accessibility to under-represented communities, these exhibitions offer diverse viewpoints through the work of Brazilian artist Eloa Jane Pereira and a range of pieces created by multiple Islamic artists.
Pereira is one of seventeen artists in the six-state Mid-America Arts Alliance region to receive a grant made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts. Her exhibition of twelve works, entitled Neighbors & Neighborhoods: Beav-O-Rama Park, is premiering at Art Ventures gallery. The pieces depict life in Beav-O-Rama Park, an unincorporated rural community located on the banks of the White River a few miles from Fayetteville.
Pereira says, “The idyllic nature of the neighborhood and the inclusiveness with which my neighbors welcomed me were an inspiration to want to tell the story of this unassuming place.” Working with recycled paper and carefully utilizing its textures and colors, she assembles rolled tubes of the paper into brilliant, captivating images. This collection of work will be up through July 28.
In continuation of Art Ventures’ earlier collaborative exhibition of Islamic Art in Context on the University of Arkansas campus, the gallery has extended public access to an impressive collection of diasporic contemporary art in the context of North American experiences. The works include paintings, graphic designs, calligraphy and photography, and will be displayed throughout the month of June.
The artists are from around the world and “use cultural iconography, technique and outlook to describe the confluence of ancient traditions and mores with a constantly changing and volatile present as lived in a new homeland.” Many additional works not displayed at the prior exhibition at the University will be included in this special show.
