Orchid Society of the Ozarks Show and Sale 2025

Sun. Mar. 2 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Great new location for our show this spring! This is a multi-day event; come one or all three days!

Friday, Feb. 28, 5pm -7:30pm
Saturday, March 1, 9am- 5pm
Sunday, March 2, 12pm - 4pm

Tickets are just $5 for adults and free for kids 12 and under!

If you have attended a previous show, you know that other orchid societies around our region, including Kansas City, Springfield, Tulsa, and Memphis, will put in exhibits at our show, as well as our society and several individuals and groups.

This is an official American Orchid Society judged show. To be an AOS orchid judge takes years of study and one is continuously evaluated by the more senior judges.

We usually have several plants at our show that are given AOS "flower quality" awards, a sign of excellence.

We order orchids to sell from various vendors that we've vetted, from Hawaii, California, Louisiana, and one from Missouri who has won many awards for his Vanda orchids. We always try to have a wide selection - things already in bud for people who want a quick hit of the tropics in March, smaller plants for those who like to grow things up themselves, odd things for people that like 'weird', things for a wide range of growing conditions ... the one kind you won't find many, or any, of is the ones you can find at grocery stores.

We have some very good growers among our members and they'll be there to help regarding how to care for each type, or what might do best in their conditions. We are offering free orchid care classes and since we have more space this year, they'll be less crowded.

We'll have a basic orchid care class with a demo on how to repot an orchid (something that worries a lot of new orchid owners), and one that goes deeper into some aspects of orchid growing for those who like to get a bit more technical.

Primary Trust

Sun. Mar. 2 2:00 pm

PRIMARY TRUST
BY EBONI BOOTH | DIRECTED BY VICKIE WASHINGTON
Winner of the 2024 Pulitzer Prize, Primary Trust follows mild-mannered Kenneth, a 36-year-old, set-in-his-ways bookstore worker, who spends most evenings sipping Mai Tais with his best friend at the local tiki bar. When he’s suddenly laid off, his world turns upside down—in more ways than one. Booth's surprising, touching comedy explores new beginnings, old friends, and the power of seeing the world through fresh eyes.

“It will restore your faith in theatre’s elemental storytelling powers.” -The Observer

“Perfect-anything rarely exists, but Primary Trust is pretty darn near to a perfect play.” - The Daily Beast

“It’s actually a wake up call, and not just for the man who’s been living in a daze.” - NYT Critics Pick

The Scopes Trial: 100 Years Later

Thu. Mar. 6 5:15 pm

Location: (GEAR) G. David Gearhart Hall, 026 | 340 N. Campus Dr., Fayetteville, AR

As we approach its 100-year anniversary this July, the cultural salience of the Scopes Trial endures. A misdemeanor legal case that was purposely staged into a contentious drama became a blazing emblem for America’s power struggle between individual freedoms and majority opinion.

“Even when I walk into a high school biology class, most students have heard of the Scopes Trial, and they all have their own ideas on why it’s still important today,” said Edward Larson, University Professor of history and the Hugh and Hazel Darling Chair in Law at Pepperdine University. “I am convinced it’s the best-known trial in American history.”

Larson examined the famous “Monkey Trial” in his book Summer for the Gods: The Scopes Trial and America's Continuing Debate Over Science and Religion (Basic Books, 1997), which he went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for in 1998. Larson will visit the U of A campus to discuss the trial’s enduring legacy as part of the Palmer Hotz Endowed Lecture Series in the History of Science, hosted by the Honors College.

Starrlight Jazz Club - Matt Wilson’s Good Trouble Quintet

Sat. Mar. 8 7:30 pm

Few musicians embody the spontaneous energy of jazz like Matt Wilson. The New York-based drummer combines buoyant zeal, idiosyncratic style, infectious humor, joyous swing and an indomitable spirit of surprise.

Together, with his universally recognized personal warmth, these qualities have made Wilson one of the most in-demand players and educators on the modern jazz scene, both beloved and respected by his peers, elders and students.

Experience Shakespeare’s timeless comedy, where mistaken identities, passionate pursuits, and comedic chaos collide. Separated by a shipwreck, Viola and her twin brother embark on a journey of disguise and deception, leading to a tangled web of unrequited love. With lively music, captivating swordplay, and a fresh perspective, TheatreSquared's reimagining of this "most wonderful" romantic comedy promises an unforgettable live theatre experience.
