First Friday Songwriting Workshop
Hosted by Chris Goering, Jen Hajj, and Lee Haight

Join us—Jen, Lee, and Chris—from 10am-Noon each first Friday of the month for an opportunity to work on your song and contribute to the community of songwriters in northwest Arkansas. Attendees will bring one song to share for feedback and participate in the conversations around other participants’ original songs. Any genres/instruments welcome — All songwriters welcome.

The Workshop if FREE, but due to space and time constraints, attendees must register.

Fourth Annual Exhibition Celebrating Northwest Arkansas Visual Artists

LOCATION: Joy Pratt Markham Gallery at Walton Arts Center
EXHIBITION DATES: Aug. 30-Oct. 27, noon-2pm (on weekdays)

Walton Arts Center will showcase the creative talents of Arkansas artists from communities across the region in the fourth annual exhibition of Our Art, Our Region, Our Time, on display in Joy Pratt Markham Gallery Friday, Aug. 30 through Sunday, Oct. 27. 

The Joy Pratt Markham Gallery also opens one hour prior to performances and during intermission of performances at Walton Arts Center.

The exhibition includes 106 pieces by 87 artists representing 20 cities and the diverse communities that make up our region.

Plein Air Painting in the Ramble
Join us for our watercolor & acrylic nature painting workshops! Enjoy some time outside and be inspired by the nature around you. This workshop is open to adults ages 18+ — bring a friend, special someone, or just yourself!

This workshops is free to Fayetteville City Residents thanks to the sponsorship by City of Fayetteville & the Lower Ramble.

4:30 PM — Students will meet at CCC for a brief introduction. Instructor will lead students to the Lower Ramble to paint with gouache, watercolors, or acrylic on paper or stretched canvas.
7 PM — Students will return to CCC to discuss the experience.

Weekend Starts Series

An art-infused series of Friday evening “compact creativity festivals” that will take place in the Lower Ramble. Kick off the weekend with a burst of creativity and fun! The WEST series is being held in conjunction with the University of Arkansas Department of Music.

Music performers will celebrate the musical diversity found at the university. Concerts will feature jazz trios, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban music, Ozark ballads, classical ensembles, rock songs, medieval music and more!

Attendees can expect a lively atmosphere where they can unwind after a busy work week, enjoy strolling through the beautiful natural area and engage with their local arts community.

Bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy the performances and stay awhile. Arriving via the Razorback Greenway is encouraged, but parking is available at the Fayetteville Public Library’s south surface parking lot, as well as on-street parking along West Ave.

The series is free, open to the public and all ages are welcome.

Music on the Mountain Presents Amos Cochran

Get ready to get into Arkansas roots all season long with Mount Sequoyah’s fall Music on the Mountain Series! This longtime vibrant collection of concerts is FREE in 2024 thanks to the support of an Arkansas Heritage Grant. Any donations will go to support Mount Sequoyah's continued community programing. This season features a stellar lineup of talented Arkansas musicians! Mark your calendars and grab your blankets because the music starts flowing on September 6th and ends on October 26th! Experience a diverse musical tapestry exploring Ozark and Americana roots.

This concert will be in Millar Lodge and seating will be provided.
Please, no outside food or drink. We will have drinks available but there will be no pizza option for this show.
Music begins 6:00PM

Tickets are free but SEATING IS LIMITED so we ask that people make reservations.

Amos Cochran is an Emmy nominated composer, musician, and sound artist based in America.

His work has been showcased at the Sundance, Berlin, and Toronto Film Festivals, as well as with PBS, the London Design Festival, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Unexpected, the University of Houston Brain Center, and his A/V piece Memory Dissolve received the merit award at Artfields 2021. This Fall he had two showcase performances during the inaugural FORMAT festival curated by global creative house TRIADIC, including a biofeedback based collaboration with world renowned designer and sex anthropologist Betony Vernon.

In 2023, Cochran was one of the Arkansas Arts Council Fellows for his multisensory work. Along with expanding his work for film, he will be a collaborator with the Fort Smith Symphony for their new chamber music services, Perspectives. His new A/V installation N.I. (Natural Intelligence) played nightly at The Momentary in Bentonville, AR from September - November.

Padma Viswanathan’s novels have been published in eight countries and shortlisted for the PEN USA Prize, the Scotiabank Giller Prize, and others. She has published short fiction, essays and translations from Brazilian Portuguese in Granta, The Boston Review, BRICK, and elsewhere. Full-length translations include São Bernardo, by Graciliano Ramos and Where We Stand, by Djamila Ribeiro. Her most recent books are Like Every Form of Love: A Memoir of Friendship and True Crime and The Charterhouse of Padma, a novel. She is Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Arkansas—Fayetteville, where she is Founding Director of the Arkansas International Writer-at-Risk Residency Program.
