Fayetteville is excited to host the terminus events for the 2013 Air Race Classic. The Air Race Classic is an all women, transcontinental air race of approximately 2,500 miles in four days. Tracing its roots back to 1929, when aviatrix Amelia Earhart first flew in it, the Air Race was subsequently dubbed the “Powder Puff Derby.”
The Fayetteville Visitors Bureau is proud to launch a new historical walking tour of the Downtown Fayetteville Square.
For nearly 200 years the Downtown Square has been the heart of the city, the center for meetings, markets, parades and rallies. It has been burned down, shot at, blown away, and even deliberately destroyed in the name of progress, but has come back every time as an ever-evolving commercial and social hub for the citizens of Fayetteville.
